Osteoporosis Treatment in Hyderabad
Osteoporosis gives no symptoms until a bone breaks. Bone is lost quietly over years, and the first sign is very often a fracture from a fall that should not have caused one — a wrist, a hip, or a vertebra that collapses and shows up as sudden back pain and lost height. Once that has happened, the risk of the next fracture is substantially higher.
Which makes it one of the few conditions where the entire value lies in acting early. Dr. Deepak Thiriveedi assesses bone density, corrects the vitamin D and calcium deficiencies that are near-universal in India, treats the hormonal causes of bone loss, and prescribes the medication that measurably reduces fracture risk.

Who should be assessed
- Women after menopause, particularly early or surgical menopause
- Anyone who has broken a bone from a minor fall after 50
- Loss of height, or a stoop that has developed over time
- Long-term steroid use, for asthma, arthritis or any other reason
- A parent who fractured a hip
- Thyroid disease, low body weight, or long-standing vitamin D deficiency
What is treated here
Bone density assessment
A DEXA scan reads bone density directly and gives the number that treatment decisions are actually made on.
Vitamin D and calcium
Deficiency is extremely common in Hyderabad despite the sun. Correcting it properly, with the right dose for long enough, comes before anything else.
The hormonal causes
Overactive thyroid or parathyroid, low oestrogen or testosterone, and steroid effects all thin bone and are all treatable.
Fracture prevention
Medication where the risk warrants it, with the fall-prevention measures that matter as much as the drug does.
What the consultation involves
- 01
Risk assessment
Fracture history, family history, menopause timing, medication and lifestyle, put together into a real risk estimate.
- 02
Measure, do not assume
DEXA scan with vitamin D, calcium, kidney function and thyroid, to separate simple deficiency from established osteoporosis.
- 03
Treat and recheck
Treatment matched to risk, then a repeat scan after an interval to confirm the bone is responding rather than hoping it is.
Common questions
At what age should I get a bone density test?
Around the age of 65 for women and 70 for men as a general rule, but considerably earlier where risk factors exist — after an early menopause, after any fracture from a minor fall, on long-term steroids, or with a family history of hip fracture. In those situations the test is worth doing at whatever age the risk appears.
Is calcium enough to treat osteoporosis?
No. Calcium and vitamin D are necessary but not sufficient once osteoporosis is established — they support bone, they do not rebuild it. Established osteoporosis needs specific medication, which reduces fracture risk substantially in a way supplements alone do not.
Why is vitamin D deficiency so common in Hyderabad?
Sunlight is abundant and exposure is not. Indoor work, covered clothing, sunscreen and darker skin all reduce how much vitamin D the skin makes, and Indian diets contain very little. Deficiency is the norm rather than the exception, which is why it is measured rather than assumed either way.
